Meet James Abell: 3D Artist and Designer
James Abell is a 3D artist/designer currently based in Helensburgh.
He has worked with commercial projects with 3D graphics since 1999. He has had two articles in the international magazine 3D World, given a mesh of the Hubble Space Telescope to NASA on their request and worked with offshore renewable, robotics companies entertainment and has had two short films shortlisted in Channel 4 film festivals.
He also makes “tradigital” art mixing 3d graphics, 3d printing and traditional drawing with work which he sells on his website.
In the last few years, he completed 3 artist in residence periods in FabLabs, in Montreal, Canada, London and also Iceland. For the definition of a FabLab see https://www.fablabs.io.
He is an advocate of the Maker movement in general, especially 3D printing. He believes that it allows you to make almost anything from anywhere. In his case, he is striving for cinematic experiences in his art. Future short films using this technology and promote it on international markets as a saleable product/s.
In 2017, he is dedicating his time to making a science fiction universe called “ The 3Z Universe” made using 3D prints, 3D graphics and drawings. You can view this here.
James plans to make a type of book from this work and also a short film, filming his 3D prints and also 3s CGI. Some of his science fiction 3D print models are also for sell on hise shop. He would like you to come with him on his adventure!
